Busy Weekend Recap

Seems like it’s constantly raining here – yuk! My cold isn’t getting any better either with this shitty weather. Ah well, I’ll be in the city of 30°C next week so it might be nice to be used to cold AC like temperatures. 😉
Had a busy weekend. Saturday we had the TV team here and shoot a little clip about the genetically modified corn field near us. A farmer friend said a few things and my step-dad, too and it was nice to see my old roommate who was the journalist for this little production. I might be in it, too depending on how they cut. Go see it on NDR next Monday 8/6 at 20:15 in Markt.
Right after that we celebrated my step-dad’s birthday with good food and lots of family friends until 2am.
Sunday my dad gave me a lift to Hamburg and we had wanted to see the HSV soccer match but surprisingly that was sold out. Hmmm. Well, I then went over to my friend’s place but I did feel bad for my dad who had only driven up because of that. Oh well. I met Anke at R-Eis, a milkrice bar. Super cool and man I should have taken a photo of the interior design I absolutely loved it! Had some pear-cinnamon rice and a latte macchiato for 3,50€. Gotta love student eateries. We then trooped back home after dropping of her sister at the train station. Bloody rain. But a cup of tea and rattatouille warmed us back up and we enjoyed some TV and chatted.
Monday I went for my interview, which was alright but kind of weird “Well you have all the qualifications (lists everything), what do you want here?” and “We don’t really have a strategy here” and well it was all kind of weird. Don’t think it’s my cup of tea. Afterwards I got some cake and a croissant at my favorite bakery and we hung out some more and then I took the train back home. Of course I got in with a 20 minutes delay but I still made it to the dentist before they closed and she said my tooth is fine, it’s just a crack with a discoloration. I love my dentist. She calls me with my first name and always asks what I’m doing now and my sisters and my mom and blabla. We’ve been going there for more than 10 years now and you know how villages are. Anyways, I’m glad it’s not caries. Yay! 🙂
Oh and about the cortisol, it’s actually not that bad when you inhale it. My doc talked about that with me, too. The pills are a real bitch but I only inhale a thousanths of the dosis and the biggest side-effect is some mouth fungus from the transporation particles and not even the corticol itself if you don’t rinse your mouth afterwards. Well I brush my teeth right after inhaling it so that should do the trick.
Alrighty, hope you’re all doing well! Smoochies!

What Your Soul Really Looks Like

You are quite expressive and thoughtful. You see the world in a way that others are blind to.

You are a grounded person, but you also leave room for imagination and dreams. You feet may be on the ground, but you’re head is in the clouds.

You believe that people see you as larger than life and important. While this is true, they also think you’re a bit full of yourself.

Your near future is a lot like the present, and as far as you’re concerned, that’s a very good thing.

For you, love is all about caring and comfort. You couldn’t fall in love with someone you didn’t trust.

You Have Many Alpha Tendencies

You’re not a total alpha female, but you certainly know how to – and like to – get your way.
You’re forceful without being intimidating. You’re confident without being vain. A perfect mix.

Your Famous Last Words Will Be:

“Nice doggy.”

You Are A Fig Tree

You are very independent and strong minded.
A hard worker when you want to be, you play hard too.
You are honest and loyal. You hate contradiction or arguments.
You love life, and you live for your friends, children, and animals.
A great sense of humor, artistic talent, and intelligence are all gifts you possess.

Not Much Going on

No wonder I’ve been so lazy about blogging, nothing’s happening here really except some job things that I won’t blog about publicly though. Went to my grand-ma’s with my dad yesterday after having bugged him long enough about going there with me. She seems like she’s come back well from her stroke and heart-attack last December. We went grocery shopping for her and then had some yummy Eichsfelder coldcuts lunch. Mmmm! Too bad I couldn’t fit anymore in my tummy, would have loved to have tried that liversausage, too.
Hmmmm, whatelse… I hung out with Juliane on Saturday. They got a new puppy and he’s too cute! Went on a walk with all their 3 dogs and the poor old one kept trotting behind but at least she did walk seeing that she hadn’t been able to do that before.
My old roommate from Hamburg also called me (well both of them did but I mean the one that works as a journalist). She wants to shoot a story about that genetically manipulated corn that’s being tested on a field near here and we gave her a couple of contacts to talk to. Well turned out all these organic farmers that are soooo against the field don’t want to appear in front of a camera for who knows what reasons. Come on, they have an opportunity to get their point accross and they don’t want to do it… uhm-kay (oh and it’s not private TV, it’s a public channel, too). Ah well.
Oh yeah I’m supposed to write that Marc and I were on the phone for ages yesterday and it was nice to catch up with him. 😉
This week I have a couple of appointments. Dr.’s on Friday, hopefully hair dresser, too, then Saturday my step-dad has his birthday party and then Sunday I’m going to Hamburg with my Dad and maybe I’ll watch his soccer team (HSV) play or maybe not, then I’ll go straight to my friend’s place where I’ll stay the night before I have an interview there.
Alright, I’ll stop boring everybody now… toodles!

33°C

All of a sudden summer came back. From 15° or so to over 30° in 2 days. Yeah great. But at least it’s not raining anymore and skirts and shorts are back out of my closet. Yay! Now all I need is a pool ;-).
Tomorrow is my great-aunt’s funeral. She passed away at 82 after having laid in bed for about 4 years now. My mom is very upset as it was her god-mother. I can’t say I knew her much but seeing that my mom is so sad I’ll go to the funeral, too. Still debating about what to wear. I take it a black bikini is out of question but man, it’s gonna be hot in the midday heat in black clothes. I’m thinking about maybe a navy skirt and a black tee; that should be fine…
Last week I went bowling with my friend Jenny and her colleagues. Funny thing is that one of our old classmates now works with her and he was bowling, too. It’s always nice to meet old high-school mates again. Oh yeah and I totally sucked at bowling…. 96, 77, 64. Yeah enough said… The 96 is fine but the rest… oh boy… Need to play more than once every 2 years I guess 😉
Oh I also finally called Steffen, a college mate who lives and works in my town now. I said we should meet up and do a little Werni-Reunion so hopefully we’ll do that later this summer.
Nothing definite at the job front yet but things are looking well and with loads of finger crossing I’ll have a nice job soon. Oh yeah, I never heard from the company in Frankfurt again. Hmmm. Well the job isn’t my thing anyways I realized but still weird to not have heard from them at all – they did reimburse me for my trainticket there, though. Ah well, doesn’t matter. 🙂

Good Weekend in Bankfurt

I realize I’ve written a lot of protected entries these days but hey, you never paid for getting 100% insight into my soul and brain and this is my blog. 😉 Some things are just not ready to be known to the world yet so have a little faith in me.

Anyways, as the heading suggests, I spent the weekend in Germany’s financial center, in Frankfurt am Main. I got invited by a company to introduce myself there and I figured it’d be wasted money if I don’t spend some time in town while I was there. I met with my old friend A for coffee and we chatted for a while until my family unfortunately called and made me do some crazy things. That morning it had been my sister’s graduation from high school (yeah unbelievable… she’s growing up and got a brain, too) so I drove my mom’s car to the train station and they were gonna pick it up with their spare key and take it home. Well, turned out my sister had lost her keys including the spare car key that god-knows-why was on her keychain to begin with. The car was standing there in a 1 hour parking zone and now they wanted me to overnight the key. OK so I’m just a bit annoyed that A and I have to leave the nice cafe and find a post office but you know, shit happens. Of course the line at the post is looooooooong. Half way through my mom calls me again to tell me to cut a copy of the key in case the post loses it. Uhm ok so we leave the line again and try to find a locksmith. Found one but he doesn’t have the right keybase to make a copy. Nicely enough he saves us a walk to the other one by calling and asking if they have one there. They didn’t. So another call to the family and we’re allowed to mail it without making a copy. Back to the long-ass line at the post office. Had a real nice post officer who actually gave us a bubble wrap envelope for free when he saw that I had wanted to buy a box and then we were finally done. You’d think my sisetr would say thank you for making it possible for her to drive to some music festival the next day and in the process kind of ruining the afternoon with the girl that was my bestfriend in middle and high school. Nope, no thank you at all and I had to ask my family to give me back the money I paid for the overnighter. Tzzz!
Anyways, enough bitching about that, I’ll just remember for the future.. Muahaha!
So after that episode, I met my friend K and after retrieving my bag from the lockers at the train station we headed to her place. She just moved to Frankfurt this year and she’s got this amazing apartment. We got some groceries with her boy (if you’re curious about how it feels for an American to live in Germany, click on that link titled Frankfurt Files on the right) and just hung out and cooked a lovely coconut chicken curry and had that with our friend I. Chatted until midnight and then just slept looong. More relaxing in the morning with nice breakfast (sorry D my stomach just wasn’t ready for eggs then ;-)) and then we met I at Starbucks in the city center and relaxed some more. I also got the tour of Frankfurt, which was kind of messed up by the Ironman event’s stages but I still got a feeling that Frankfurt is an alright enough city that’s quite livable. Water always adds a big plus to a city and walking along the Main with the skyline on the other side was just plain nice. You’d think a big city like Frankfurt would offer all sorts of food but it took us forever to find a place that was a) not way too redlightdistricty or b) too fancy=expensive. We finally settled on Chinese and I won the contest of ordering the best dish (though everyone had been eyeing it on the menu anyways, I just made the call) but even K’s sad peanut chicken was quite good. 😉
We finished off the day at a cocktail bar where we had to wait ages for our waitress to come by and she was bitchy about it too but we still got the happy hour deal.
Sunday was more relaxing with another great breakfast (yum those pancakes!) and K’s boyfriend giving me lots of great advice on negotiating salary in case I’ll ever have to… *rolls eyes*. Then it was time to catch my train again and I even came to the station to say bye so that was sweet.
Oh yeah the train ride…! My reservation was for a seat in a compartment (cause the normal seats were booked out) and this guy sitting accross my seat had his feet up on my seat when I got there and he was really big. Didn’t stop being annoying the entire train ride with putting his fat legs everywhere and dropping his big magazine on my feet without saying sorry and then hitting everyone in the compartment with his backpack. Everyone was just rolling their eyes at him. Ruuuude!
Anyways, I’m back home. Had lunch with my Dad yesterday, which was nice. My friend J came over on Monday night and I made sushi for her. Also finally got my deposit from my apartment in Werni back after calling them again. Yay, I’m rich now! Happy days 🙂
