Back Home

I’m back in cold old Germany – brrrrrrrr!
All that late night partying in Charlotte (the last one with home made pizza – yum!) made me really tired so when I got on the plane I was actually able to sleep! My seat neighbor and I drowned some gin-tonic and then my melantonin kicked in and I fell asleep around 8pm. I woke up a couple of times but was able to go back to sleep and I was shocked when they turned on the lights and served breakfast at 1am Eastern time – an hour before landing! Seriously, that flight must have gone by the fastest ever. I was so happy. Our purser was also super nice – actually so nice that I had to fill out a comment card about how great the service was.
Then another short flight from Munich up to Hanover and surprise surprise one of my best friends, Marc, picked me up from the airport! Yay! We then had some brunch at my parents and after taking a nap my other friend Jens came over to hear all the news and play video games with me. Why he insisted on coming over the first night I was back – I don’t know… Oh I guess he just wanted to get the manbag that I had to bring over for him.
Anyway, I had my check-up for my lungs today and good news, she typed in “lungs are now” in her little report. Yay! I’m down to one dose of cortisol for another month now and thereafter I only have to take it if I feel like I need it. Woot!
Well, I’m off to find a scanner to scan my old visa documents. The faster I get my visa the better; my Mom has already started to treat me like a slave again with making me cook and taxiing around my sister. Ah the joys….
But good news, I’m going to Italy for three days in 2.5 weeks so that should be nice.

I never thought I’d say this…

…but I miss my Irish ALDI store! We went to a local one yesterday and I was really sad to see no grapefruit segments, no couscous, no Indian sauces, and the store assistants wore super ugly uniforms! I guess ALDI in Santry just had more advanced items and not only basics (though they were still pretty basic). The one good thing about the local ones here are the lunchmeats and other bread toppings but oh well. The main difference might just be that I live in an ALDI Nord area and ALDI Ireland (and USA by the way) are both part of ALDI Süd.

PS: Interesting piece of trivia: Trader Joe’s actually belongs to the same owner as ALDI. Wow…

Busy Weekend Recap

Seems like it’s constantly raining here – yuk! My cold isn’t getting any better either with this shitty weather. Ah well, I’ll be in the city of 30°C next week so it might be nice to be used to cold AC like temperatures. 😉
Had a busy weekend. Saturday we had the TV team here and shoot a little clip about the genetically modified corn field near us. A farmer friend said a few things and my step-dad, too and it was nice to see my old roommate who was the journalist for this little production. I might be in it, too depending on how they cut. Go see it on NDR next Monday 8/6 at 20:15 in Markt.
Right after that we celebrated my step-dad’s birthday with good food and lots of family friends until 2am.
Sunday my dad gave me a lift to Hamburg and we had wanted to see the HSV soccer match but surprisingly that was sold out. Hmmm. Well, I then went over to my friend’s place but I did feel bad for my dad who had only driven up because of that. Oh well. I met Anke at R-Eis, a milkrice bar. Super cool and man I should have taken a photo of the interior design I absolutely loved it! Had some pear-cinnamon rice and a latte macchiato for 3,50€. Gotta love student eateries. We then trooped back home after dropping of her sister at the train station. Bloody rain. But a cup of tea and rattatouille warmed us back up and we enjoyed some TV and chatted.
Monday I went for my interview, which was alright but kind of weird “Well you have all the qualifications (lists everything), what do you want here?” and “We don’t really have a strategy here” and well it was all kind of weird. Don’t think it’s my cup of tea. Afterwards I got some cake and a croissant at my favorite bakery and we hung out some more and then I took the train back home. Of course I got in with a 20 minutes delay but I still made it to the dentist before they closed and she said my tooth is fine, it’s just a crack with a discoloration. I love my dentist. She calls me with my first name and always asks what I’m doing now and my sisters and my mom and blabla. We’ve been going there for more than 10 years now and you know how villages are. Anyways, I’m glad it’s not caries. Yay! 🙂
Oh and about the cortisol, it’s actually not that bad when you inhale it. My doc talked about that with me, too. The pills are a real bitch but I only inhale a thousanths of the dosis and the biggest side-effect is some mouth fungus from the transporation particles and not even the corticol itself if you don’t rinse your mouth afterwards. Well I brush my teeth right after inhaling it so that should do the trick.
Alrighty, hope you’re all doing well! Smoochies!

What Your Soul Really Looks Like

You are quite expressive and thoughtful. You see the world in a way that others are blind to.

You are a grounded person, but you also leave room for imagination and dreams. You feet may be on the ground, but you’re head is in the clouds.

You believe that people see you as larger than life and important. While this is true, they also think you’re a bit full of yourself.

Your near future is a lot like the present, and as far as you’re concerned, that’s a very good thing.

For you, love is all about caring and comfort. You couldn’t fall in love with someone you didn’t trust.

You Have Many Alpha Tendencies

You’re not a total alpha female, but you certainly know how to – and like to – get your way.
You’re forceful without being intimidating. You’re confident without being vain. A perfect mix.

Your Famous Last Words Will Be:

“Nice doggy.”

You Are A Fig Tree

You are very independent and strong minded.
A hard worker when you want to be, you play hard too.
You are honest and loyal. You hate contradiction or arguments.
You love life, and you live for your friends, children, and animals.
A great sense of humor, artistic talent, and intelligence are all gifts you possess.

No No and Yes

I had a doctor’s appointment this morning and I went with the intention of getting confirmed that my asthma has been really good and I’m basically fine for some disability insurance. After waiting an hour, even though I had an appointment, I spoke to the doc and she had my lungs’ functions tested after giving having me get a quadruple shot (yay for multiple protection in one shot). Well, it turned out that my lungs are only having about 75% of normal capacity right now and some test was even at 65%. I was like “huh?! Nooooooo!” as I really do feel great and my nordic walking is much faster with less huffing and puffing than my Mom’s who does loads of excercise. Ah well, maybe I just didn’t do the test right but either way, I’m gonna have to take some cortisol twice a day now. Fun fun. Not! But if I feel great now, imagine how I’ll feel after having taken that medicine for a while.

In the afternoon I went to the hair dresser to have my hair trimmed. Uhm yeah not too sure what to think of what she did. She just cut shorter and shorter and I was like, uhm… ok way enough. I mean my hair was way too long but I’m not really happy with what she did to me. Hmpf! No!

But yes, I got my flight confirmation and I’m gonna fly to Charlotte in 1.5 weeks and I’ll stay three weeks to relax, hang out in the pool, see all my friends again, shop, and drink loads of sweet tea! Should be fun. Yay!
