The Party

Last night was Jenny’s birthday party and it was lots of fun. I don’t know why I woke up this early today… Nice food, nice people, nice music (Dirty Dancing soundtrack ;-)), and we got to one of her guests to pull his shirt up and show us his nipple piercing. Looked painful to me and can you imagine having something rip at it like a sweater when you pull it off. Au!
I got some gifts from my friends, too, an IQ training book seeing that I’m getting old (though thankfully I answered their sample questions correctly *phhhhh* and a book on how to get a job in the US (let’s see if that’s useful), a sunflower, a mug, and body lotion. Nice. 🙂

Oh I also had lunch with my dad and that was alright, too. Nothing exciting. We were at his pub and I don’t really like meeting him there as I always kind of feel in the spotlight with his girlfriend working there and not many guests around. But of course it was nice to see them again and he’s funded my health insurance for this month and the next so yay!

Oh and my birthday itself! 4 of my grandparents (one grandma couldn’t make it) came over for coffee and cake and it was same old same old. The cakes were super yummy but the stories as boring as ever but at least we managed to go without war memories for 1.5 hours. That might a new record! 🙂 Later we had dinner and that was nicer with real conversation. Haha. 🙂 But overall it was a nice day and it was good to see my mom’s parents again after all these months.

Well, the plan for today is to get my German resume up to date and improved (I’m thinking of doing it anti-chronical now seeing that my last company is much more known than my first company). I got my letters of reference scanned at an old friend’s house yesterday and I guess the German job-hunt can begin. Gotta see what’s out there. Later my friends want to go out again to some bar/club here so I might just have to take a nap before that. I’m getting old! 😉

Summer in The Village

We finally had those temperatures that I’d been jealous about while I was in Ireland. 28°C in the shade today and of course my room had lovely 28°C, too for a while. Great outside but inside… man…. I totally forgot how quickly my room heats up – talk about two huge windows to the south side and wooden floor. I totally enjoyed sitting in a recliner on our porch today though and having dinner (huge chicken wings, cabbage and fries – yum) outside was sooooo nice!
Also unfortunately with the heat the bugs arrive. My grandparents had a huge hornet in their bedroom today but I saw it from outside in the window and made my step-dad get rid of it. Then, my parents have bribed our neighbors’ cat to live with us (catfood and being allowed inside plus on a couple of sofas did the trick). She lays on the sofa for half of the day and the rest she roams around outside and collects tics. Well, those yucky tics decided to not stay on the cat and instead crawl around the house. I was watching telly on Monday night and the next morning under the shower I came up with a nasty little tic from my butt. Yuk! Must have crawled from the sofa into my pants. Damn low-rise jeans. Ugh, I just hope the tic didn’t lose any legs or so in my skin. I hate the buggers!! Oh yeah and to complete the critter story, there’s a huge spider in front of our window here in the office (where our computer with the ISDN line is *sighs**misses high speed internet*). Super nasty and the bloody insects keep flying into the net and the spider attacs them and yuk….

OK enough boring stuff. I’m in the process of calling my friends to tell them I’m back but a lot of them don’t answer the phones or I get weird messages from their phones… Hmmmmm screening their calls ;-)?
Tomorrow is lunch with my dad and other than that I’m being good about my thesis and help my sister with her homework. She’s such a sweetie: “Learning vocabulary with you is fun” “Uhm you mean it’s the least annoying if you study with me as opposed to the rest of the family?” “Nah, it’s actually fun”. Awwww. Watch out, by the end of my time here, she’ll have turned into a nerd… ;-D

It Reigns My Life

Where as it= the evil diploma thesis. I spent most of Saturday and Sunday reminiscing over it and writing and editing it. I finished two sub-chapters of the last chapter – three more subchapters to go. *sighs* I can’t wait to be done with it. I doubt that the thesis’s great – it actually sucks but I hope my professors aren’t paying too much attention to that small aspect. 😉
Friday was really nice though. My co-worker A and I went to the city centre after work and then took the Luas (Dublin’s tram) to Heuston Station. That Billion Dollar Babes event was near there in the Museum of Modern Art. Great location!! The sale was so/so. I think I prefer TJ Maxx (or TK Maxx as they call it here). I did find a cute cardigan with silk though and the free cocktails beat TJMaxx any day. 😉 Also got some free candy and a pink ribbon pin after donating some to the breast cancer society.
Afterwards A suggested to go for some Chinese in Parnell Street. She was all worried that I wouldn’t like it or that I’d be scared by the area as it’s the ethnic neighbourhood. I loved it though and also got some shopping done at one of the local Korean stores. Got me some wasabi nuts for my lunch box and then we had a greaaaat meal. Super cheap, too! We had prawn dumplings and some Asian pickles and then beef with black bean sauce and more shrimps and fried noodles. Of course we didn’t finish that all!! A group of big Korean girls (always weird to see obese Asians for some reason) was doing karaoke next door. Boy oh boy… 😉 Good entertainment!
No mail from the KCC but my sister did get a call from a potential host family for her au-pair year. She was super excited but I had to talk her into liking the idea of staying with them. Come on, Austin, TX with only one 4th grader and a pool in the back yard and a family that likes healthy eating. Doesn’t sound bad to me at all!! I think she’s just waiting for something like New England, 1 child, an extra maid and chef, a great car for herself, tropical vacations with the family, etc. ;-). We’ll see. Sounds like one of her friends actually has a family like that but you all know that that’s not a guarantee for happiness. But anyways, I’m all excited for my sister and she’s cute being all scared of calling them. Hehe! 🙂
